The Duke of York relinquishes his designation as York's Duke.
The royal is relinquishing his titles, such as the the Duke, he has declared in a individual message.
He has been under growing attention over his connections with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with demands for the royal household to take measures against him.
That now seems to have led to the royal deciding to willingly return his designations and to relinquish membership of the prestigious order.
In his statement he said he continued to "vigorously deny the accusations against me".
"In consultation with the King, and my immediate and broader family, we have concluded the persistent accusations about me take away from the responsibilities of the monarch and the monarchy," said a statement from the royal.
"I have chosen, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my kin and nation first.
"I stand by my choice five years ago to withdraw from royal engagements.
"With the monarch's agreement, we believe I must now go a additional measure. I will therefore no longer hold my designation or the awards which have been granted to me. As I have said before, I firmly deny the claims against me."
He has faced a series of issues, such as a court case he ended with the plaintiff, inquiries about his economic affairs and his connection with an accused foreign agent.
He will stay a member of royalty - but will cease to be the Duke of York, a designation bestowed from his the late Queen, the Queen Elizabeth II.
The prince had already stopped to be a "participating figure" and had given up the use of his royal style and no longer participated at public engagements. His status now will be even more lessened.
His former spouse will be known as Sarah Ferguson and no longer York's Duchess, but their children will carry on to have the title of princess.
Prince Andrew has faced intense examination over his associations with convicted sex offender Epstein, more in recent times involving inquiries about when he had really severed contact.
In his BBC Newsnight interview, the royal had said that he had severed all connections with Jeffrey Epstein after they had been photographed together in the city in late 2010.
But messages sent in the following year later came to light suggesting that Andrew had privately continued in communication with him, for example swapping a note: "Keep in close touch and we'll have further interactions soon!"
There had been growing displeasure in Buckingham Palace at the issues that continued to envelop the royal.
In the coming days a posthumous memoir by the accuser will be released which is anticipated to draw additional attention on his connection with the plaintiff and Epstein.
