A female charged with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a phone message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered investigations and remains unresolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Is that not crucial for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," she added.

The panel was informed that by means of electronic messages, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who collated the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in December 2024.

Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be considered genuine in the period preceding the appearance to that location, the county, in last December.

The court heard communications between the two defendants, in last November, considering trying to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which expressed: "We're currently sat near the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling detectives. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
